Hotel Seespitz

Die Weissensee-Umrundung For a large number of the SEESPITZ guests, one could almost say that this tour is mandatory. The round has a distance of 5.4 km and leads you directly along the fantastic and highly varied landscape of the Weis- sensee lakeside. It is also ideally suited as a Nordic walking route. You can borrow sticks from us in the reception area. The Lake Weissensee came into being after the Lech glacier had melted. It is exceptionally clean, approx. 25 m deep and is fed by a number of small streams. The Lake Weissensee outlet is the Füssen Achen River, flowing into the Lake Hopfensee. The lake either got its name from the light-coloured limescale on the lake floor or from an Alemannian by the name of Wizo, who is said to have lived here about 600 A.D. . Today the lake belongs to the City of Füssen. A remarkable feature can be seen at the south side of the lake, where there is a small marble quarry. Here so-called Benkener marble was broken off. This was allegedly used to make the baptismal font of the St. Mang parish church in Füssen. Yet another highlight along the southern bank is the rock gateway, a natural monument, which is even listed as a GEOTOPE in the environmental catalogue of Bavaria. When walking through it, be careful not to bump your head!
